Norman received his undergraduate training in Physics Engineering in Jena, Germany. He completed his dissertation research at the Physics Department, University of Auckland, New Zealand, where he focused on novel dispersion and polarization concepts for coherent ranging. Subsequently, he joined the lab of Prof. Brett Bouma as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School in Boston. His postdoctoral research focussed on the adaption of advanced polarimetry and the development of high-speed frequency modulated laser sources.

Norman is currently Instructor in the group of Prof. Benjamin Vakoc at Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts General Hospital, and a Visiting Scholar in the group of Prof. Marko Lončar at SEAS. His current work evolves around stepped frequency combs and active integrated photonics to develop new ranging and diagnostic tools.
