Our work on "Integrated silicon carbide electro-optic modulator" published on Nature Communications

April 5, 2022
We design, fabricate, and demonstrate a Pockels modulator in silicon carbide. Specifically, we realize a waveguide-integrated, small form-factor, gigahertz-bandwidth modulator that operates using complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS)-level voltages on a thin film of silicon carbide on insulator. Our work "On-chip electro-optic frequency shifters and beam splitters" is published on Nature!

November 24, 2021

We demonstrate high efficiency and low loss frequency shifters and beam splitters that are controlled using only a single-tone microwave drive, featuring an efficiency of 90%, on-chip insertion loss of 0.45 dB, shift ratio of >99%, and a shift frequency of 30-GHz. Furthermore, we demonstrate cascaded electro-optic frequency shifter, in which light flows through a ladder of energy levels to form a cascaded frequency shift. We shift the light for 120 GHz using only a 30-GHz continous and single-tone microwave.
